About Me

Andrew Bass HeadshotGuess you wanna know who the hell I am, right? Of course you do…otherwise why would you be reading this page. I’ll make my story short and sweet so we can just get to the good stuff already.

First up…my name is Andrew Bass, Jr. and I’ve spent over twenty years in the design game focusing on the areas of identity/ branding, publication design, collateral and recently web design. After years of working for others, I founded my own freelance design consultancy in 2007 providing dynamic visual strategies for small/mid-size businesses and not-for-profits that are simple and direct. In 2012, I closed my physical studio and went back as in-house Art Director. Straight Design still operates but strictly as a freelance consultancy. My studies were completed at Pratt Institute where I earned my BFA in Communications Design.

Trivia Alert! My second job out of Pratt was as an assistant art director in an adult publishing company. Most folks chuckled but within 2 years, I was appointed Group Art Director for four of their titles. This gave me the opportunity to move on and lead various art departments at companies like Essence Communications, McGraw-Hill, CMP Media and Nielsen Business Media.

Along the way I’ve garnered multiple awards from groups like American Society of Business Publication Editors, The Ozzies, American Business Media (Jesse H. Neal Awards) and Graphic Design USA. My work has been published in Layers magazine, GD:USA and LogoLounge III. In addition, I’m  a member of AIGA and the  Freelancers Union.
